The American Apocalypse: Is the United States in Bible Prophecy ReviewI was disappointed in this book. Probably because I expected something a bit different. What I expected was a book that would speak to those who have a good understanding of prophecy and are aware of current events, but would bring some new insight to the obvious. This book did not do that.
I found it tediously repetitive; rehashing the same points over and over. That kind of writing really wears me out. I can absolutely say I learned nothing new from this book.
Having said that, if anyone wants a crash course in prophecy and is clueless about what is going on around them, this book will educate them and get them on the path to understanding.
I don't think it was a bad book. Just wasn't what I hoped it would be.The American Apocalypse: Is the United States in Bible Prophecy Overview

The Coming Epiphany ReviewI highly recommend this book to anyone. The depth of scriptural understanding contained in this book has truly helped me to see how many of the passages in scripture all tie together. After reading the book, you'll not only have a better understanding of prophecy, but you'll also learn some valuable tools as to how to study and let the Bible interpret the Bible.
Beyond all the technical aspects involving scripture, it's simply interesting and if you are hungry for spiritual truth, you will devour this book! The Coming Epiphany Overview

2012, the Bible, and the End of the World ReviewOne senses the fear building. "The end is near!" A mental image of the little bearded man in a long robe holding a placard affixed to a wooden stake with those words in broad red letters comes to mind. Only it isn't a cartoon we are facing, but the end of the world as we've known it. Planet earth is about to--because of powerful astral alignment dynamics--most likely suffer instant pole reversals, thus horrific tectonic plate shifts. This will cause the catastrophic end for most, perhaps all, human life. This is the fear of proponents of ancient Mayan Calendar predictions.

The year 2012 is but some twenty-seven months away, and the hype is on. December 21, at 11: 11 pm Universal Time of that year will...well, we don't really know. But, it will--according to pundits from scientists, astrologers, and religionists to new agers, fiction writers, and documentarians--be very bad indeed for inhabitants of the earth.

My favorite writer in the Bible prophecy genre has tackled the hoopla surrounding the 2012 specter and, with his always calming perspective based thoroughly on what the Bible has to say, makes unmistakably clear and understandable the truth regarding the Mayan Calendar prophecy. Dr. Mark Hitchcock, in 192 pages, gets to the heart of the doomsday prediction presented by shamans who have been dead for centuries. In this masterful work, while other authors of voluminous tomes on the 2012 matters consider writing second, even third volumes, Hitchcock points with precision in this tightly crafted book to where the reader should devote concentration about 2012.

The author points out the explosion of information about the subject of 2012. He writes that 187 books appeared when he searched Amazon on the topic. He indicates that when he Googled "2012," there were almost 60,000 hits. He writes that new books are appearing on the Internet and in bookstores almost every month.

Hitchcock writes:

So, why another book? What could I possibly say that has not already been said? Perhaps the best way to answer this question is to point to the title of the book. As the title suggests, my focus is to examine the 2012 phenomenon from a biblical perspective, primarily from the vantage point of end time Bible prophecy....While many other 2012 books mention the Bible or Bible codes, they don't look at 2012 through the lens of Scripture; rather, they look at Scripture through the lens of 2012. They pick and choose selected verses from the Bible, especially from the Book of Revelation, to support their vision of what the future holds....This book is written with one purpose in mind: to examine and expose the 2012 deadline in light of Bible prophecy and present what I believe the Bible reveals about the end of the age.

I agree with the author. My own recent interview for The Nostradamus Effect documentary on the History Channel will doubtless be cut and shaped to point to how Bible prophecy such as that involving the rapture (the primary subject about which they quizzed me) might contribute to giving credence to the "prophecies" of Nostradamus, and to the Mayan 2012 prediction. I've never known a secular documentary to use the Bible in checking for truth of the prophecies that are non-biblical. The Bible, in such cases, is used in such a way as to presume its support for those extra-biblical foretellings. Always they look at Scripture through the lens of whatever non-biblical prophecy they are presenting.

Mark Hitchcock, in dynamic fashion--yet with his trademark graceful use of reason tempered by a profound understanding of God's prophetic Word--shines the spotlight of truth on the ominous things of the 2012 prophecy. To get a quick, thorough, and easy-to-read, Bible-based understanding of what the growing 2012 hysteria is all about, this is the only book you need.

2012: The Bible and the End of the World is the book on the 2012 matter I can without reservation recommend to best bring you, the reader, understanding of what the future holds.

Prophecy 20/20: Profiling the Future Through the Lens of Scripture Review
PROPHECY 20/20 by Chuck Missler will do for your insight into Bible prophecies about world events what carrots will do for your eyesight. It's been said that eating lots of carrots will improve your vision, and I believe it: ever seen a rabbit seeing an optometrist? See? Well, I think PROPHECY 20/20 will also help you to see where we currently stand on God's timeline. And I'll tell you right now what time I think it is: I think we're about to get that "wake up call"; I think the alarm clock is about to blare; I think it's later than you think. Anyone who believes that all is well with the world is dreaming...but not for long! We're about to wake up to a nightmare!
When one has read as many books on Bible prophecy about the End-Times as I have, they reach a point of diminishing returns. I thought, Do I really need to read another book on this subject? Well, I'm glad I did because Chuck Missler's PROPHECY 20/20 is so up-to-date, and Missler always organizes his material in such a logical fashion. I even learned a few more very important things - not bad for an old dog, eh? This is the fourth Missler book I've mentally digested and each one has been a memorable meal.
PROPHECY 20/20 will give you a sharp overview of past Biblical prophecies fulfilled and then explore those yet to come. And I strongly urge you to dig in now because that light you see at the end of the tunnel (if you've got your eyes open at all) is indeed an oncoming train!
Did you know that an Old Testament Bible prophecy certifiably written at least three hundred years before the birth of Christ foretold the EXACT DAY He would ride that donkey into Jerusalem and proclaim Himself the King of Israel? Did you know that an EMP attack could, in a matter of minutes, blast the United States back into the 1800s? (Do you know what an EMP attack is?) Did you know that Allah is not the Arabic name for God, but is the proper name for the moon god, and that's why the crescent moon adorns mosques throughout the world? Did you know that three thousand slave labor camps in China are presently exploiting tens of millions of slave labor prisoners to produce much of the $45 billion in Chinese goods imported by America, and that America still designates China as a "Most Favored Nation Trading Partner"? And did you think that America won't answer to God for this?
Although PROPHECY 20/20 examines far more than just America's place in the End-Times scenario, one of the things I most appreciated about this book was chapter 26, The American Challenge. Many Christian preachers and writers love to extol the virtues of The United States; they lay it on thick about how we're the last bastion of freedom, the warriors for Christ on the globe, the conscience and the example for the rest of the world, and all that other hogwash! Missler is one writer who doesn't shy away from pouring the truth straight out of the vial:
Where is the most dangerous place for an American to be? In his/her mother's womb; there's a one in four chance of being murdered. Over the last 30 years the United States has experienced a: 560% increase in violent crime; 400% increase in illegitimate births; 400% increase in the divorce rate; 300% increase in single-parent homes; 200% increase in teenage suicides; and a 75% DROP in S.A.T. scores. The deterioration of each of these indicators - and dozens of others - can be traced to the year we outlawed The Bible from our schools. Think God might have something to say to us about all this?
One area in which Missler and I disagree is the identity of "that great city Babylon" which is utterly destroyed in Revelation's 18th chapter. He is looking for a reemergence to world power of the original Babylon in Iraq. One reason (among many) I am sure New York City is "that great city Babylon" is that the 18th chapter of Revelation clearly marks her as a major seaport. This could hardly describe Iraq's Babylon! I'm as sure as I can be that either New York City is "Babylon" or else the End-Times are still 100 years or more into the future because it would probably require that much time for another city to attain the wealth and influence described in Revelation 18. I believe just as strongly, however, that we now stand on the edge of "The End." But as with all Bible prophecy, a "wait and see" attitude is the most prudent. (Although Missler's observation on page 238 that the United Nations may be seeking to relocate itself out of New York "for a number of reasons" certainly doesn't hurt my case any!)
I highly recommend Chuck Missler's PROPHECY 20/20. This book, along with END-TIME PROPHECIES OF THE BIBLE by David Haggith, may be the only two you really need on this subject.
I'll end with the Billy Graham quote found on page 245: "If God doesn't judge America, He will have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah."

The Coming Economic Armageddon: What Bible Prophecy Warns about the New Global Economy ReviewThis third book in a recent series may form a trilogy of sorts. The other two recent books [What in the World is Going On? and Living with Confidence in a Chaotic World] spoke of current events and how to navigate through them as this book does. Essentially this book covers four areas: the coming New World Order, the President of the Order (AntiChrist), the coming collapse of currency and present financial system, and finally Biblical hope to work through it. Not a book that pursues subjects to an extreme depth, but more a book that gives the most recent information (and some of it is very helpful and interesting) and when I finished I had a lot to think about and wanted to re-read the book. My understanding is David J. worked exceptionally long researching this book and it shows. Rarely lags. Carries some occasional familiar traditional evangelical endtime theology, but not to the point of interference, only making points. An excellent primer for those new to the subject as well as those wishing current information. David Jeremiah is never lost time when you read or listen to what he has to say.The Coming Economic Armageddon: What Bible Prophecy Warns about the New Global Economy Overview

Justice: A Global Adventure ReviewBurghardt has a wonderful, compassionate heart for the marginalized. In Justice: A Global Adventure he seeks to raise the consciousness of Christians concerning the very real racial and socio-economic issues that we face in the U.S. The paradigm for his social ethic is rooted in Roman Catholic social teaching.
While he is well-intentioned in his efforts, much of his narrative, particularly the statistics, is one-sided and simplistic. In his rightful effort to give voice to the voiceless Burghardt fails to address some of the fair critiques of the "powerful."
For the purpose of raising consciousness of social justice issues, this is a fair primer. However, one should seek out other material, perhaps even from more conservative sources, in order to get a balanced perspective on social justice.Justice: A Global Adventure Overview
