Ecoholic: Your Guide to the Most Environmentally Friendly Information, Products, and Services ReviewOne of the things that absolutely drives me crazy is when a writer starts spouting "commonly known facts" without providing sources. The first chapter of the book on beauty products does this. It reads like a collection of alarmist hype about the different chemicals in soaps, shampoos, etc., and only once ever provides any hard scientific evidence that the chemical in question is, indeed, bad. The attitude is, "Well, even if it's NOT harmful, why risk it?" Not good enough. If you're telling me that I have to make drastic changes in my life, give me good, solid, peer-reviewed evidence, not conjecture, half-truths, and fear-mongering.
The rest of the book is a compendium of good ideas that most people should already know about (such as weather-stripping, organic cotton, blood diamonds, local farm co-ops, etc). Some of the suggestions are a little, well, pie-in-the-sky, and some are just common sense. If I had just crawled out from under a rock, or just wanted to have common sense ideas put into a single reference, this might be it. Generation Green: The Ultimate Teen Guide to Living an Eco-Friendly Life ReviewGeneration Green is a book that will truly make a difference with teens and anyone who reads it. I read it fairly quickly and am passing it along to my 18 year old son. This book will teach you ways you can make a difference in many ways, big and small. If each of us changes just one thing that we do we can make big changes. If we each change a few things and increase that over time, we can make even bigger changes and a huge difference for our future and our childrens futures. Why anyone would ignore or not do any of the things mentioned in this book, is just beyond me.
This great little book lets teens know how much water it takes when they take a shower, and really just informs them of the facts of life all over the world and how easy we have it. It then tells them small things they can change in their lifestyle to make big differences.
I think this book should be required reading for every high school. I plan on buying many and giving them to everyone I know, teens and adults.If I could give this book more than 5 stars, I would.Generation Green: The Ultimate Teen Guide to Living an Eco-Friendly Life Overview

I confess I did not read it in its entirety, I only browsed the random selections offered online. However, I was greatly disturbed by the assertion in the very first selection offered that carbon monoxide is the ugly black smoke that comes from...whatever. It contrasts carbon monoxide with carbon dioxide, which is invisible, has no odor, etc. WRONG WRONG WRONG! Carbon monoxide is every bit as invisible and odorless as carbon dioxide! This is a very concerning error, and I hope there are no more of them to weaken the book.A Hot Planet Needs Cool Kids: Understanding Climate Change and What You Can Do About It Overview
