As a masterful job of editing, this anthology brings together a multiplicity of erudite thinkers, discussing religion from multiple perspectives, and touching upon a wide range of topics, from the "definition" of religion, to secularization theory and ecology. Its companion text, Political Theologies, is also highly recommended. I consider these hefty volumes two of the most valuable texts in my personal library, and I am certain that I will be returning to them many, many times for clarifications, for insights, and for a better understanding of both the nature and history of religion and related fields of inquiry. The essays are challenging and mind-expanding. The texts are well worth the investment.
