In Their Own Words: Voices of Jihad Compilation and Commentary ReviewThis is a most interesting read by a former Deputy National Security Advisor to Pres. Jimmy Carter. It contains dozens of accounts written by jihadists of their attacks upon various targets. This is more of an anthology of other participants' experiences, rather than the author's analysis of the causes of jihadism. Topics include: Life in jihad; Seeds of jihad; jihad writings; Ideology (Islam al-Bara, Qutb, takfir; jihad martyrdom, women in jihad, raising mujahid children, killing Muslims and innocents, goals); History and geopolitics of the Middle East (clash of civilizations); Enemies (Christians, Jews, the West, apostates, Egypt, Jordan ); The Near Enemy vs. the Far Enemy; Oil; Afghanistan battlefield lessons (Russian and American campaigns); 9/11 NYC attacks; Iraq (2002-2005 era); Sunni vs. Shia disputes; Finances, recruitment; suicide bombers; hostile media; use of booby traps; Training (kidnapping, assassination, intelligence); etc. This book does undertake some exploration as to how jihadists read the Quran in justifying their attacks upon others, and the words of jihad-promoter ibn Taymiyyah are quoted. The author does quote from the lead 9/11 hijacker, Mohamed Atta: "3. Read the at-Tawba ["Repentance'] and the Anfal [`Spoils of War']. [Chapters nine and eight of the Quran]. Consider what is meant by them, and what God promised the faithful by way of enduring bliss for the martyrs" (p.215). Nonetheless the author concluded: "Jihad is not Islam" because "violence is not unique to Islam" (p.9).In Their Own Words: Voices of Jihad Compilation and Commentary OverviewWant to learn more information about In Their Own Words: Voices of Jihad Compilation and Commentary?
