Debating Globalization: International Perspectives on the Global Economic and Social Order Review"Debating Globalization" sets out to put together a balanced debate on globalization by highlighting the strengths and failures of the international global regime. One of the strengths of the book is that it presents the perspective of writers who have seen globalization from different angles - they hail from rich nations and poor and from continents around the world (among the authors are those who hail from Uganda, Nigeria, India, France, Canada, the US, etc.).But the book is swimming in the latest theoretical jargon surrounding the issues without any real field research having been undertaken by the writers. Authors are citing other theorists who themselves have only observed globalization from the Ivy towers of American universities and European institutions. The fact of the matter is that globalization has reaped terrible consequences for some of the world's poorest, and one does not find in the neo-liberal jargon of some of this book's contributors the vast discrepancy between rich and poor that globalization has caused, or the environmental ruin that has followed the "race to the bottom" that characterizes multinational corporations.
